Our tour will take you to Messina, the city known as the Gateway to Sicily located in the most north-eastern tip of Sicily on the strait that bears its name.
Since its foundation, thanks to its strategic position, Messina became the most important port center in Sicily. Destroyed by the devastating earthquake of 1783, it still preserves important architectural evidence of its glorious past. First of all the Cathedral and its bell tower which is equipped externally with the largest and most complex mechanical and astronomical clock in the world: since its inauguration, every day at midday the mechanism activates a series of statues that move spectacularly to the sound of Schubert’s Ave Maria, reproducing some scenes of the War of the Vespers of 1282
After our walk in Messina, we will head towards the suggestive Taormina, a renowned center of art, fashion, cinema and culture. Here you can visit the most important monument of the city, the Greek-Roman Theatre, but also enjoy a relaxing walk along the street or inside the beautiful gardens of the Villa Comunale.
