This tour will take you to Messina, a city called the Port of Sicily, situated at the north-eastern tip of Sicily at the strait that bears its name.
Since its founding, thanks to its strategic position, Messina has become the most important port centre in Sicily. Although it was destroyed by the devastating earthquake of 1783, it still preserves important architectural remembrances of its glorious past: the cathedral and its bell tower which has on its facade the biggest and most complex mechanical and astronomical clock in the world. Since its inauguration, every day at 12 noon the mechanism activates a series of statues that move about in a spectacular way to the music of Schubert’s Ave Maria, enacting some of the scenes of the Vespri War of 1282.
After visiting Messina, we will go to suggestive Taormina, renowned city of art, cinema, fashion and culture. Here we are going to visit the most important monument of the city, the Greek-Roman theatre and also enjoy a relaxing walk along the Corso and through the gardens of the Villa Comunale.
